National Fly-Kids Day
Saturday 18th June 2016
Fife Flying Club is taking part in this event again this year. It's designed to help local youngsters touched by adversity by giving them a flight in a light aircraft. It could help a less fortunate youngster change the shape of their life for the better.
One of our members, Stan Stewart, is Chair of a national aviation charity organisation called Aviation Without Borders, one of a “family” of European charities known collectively as ASF Europe, in honour of the founding member Aviation Sans Frontières of France.
AWB is dedicated to providing humanitarian assistance through aviation services and operates internationally providing logistics for the air freighting of humanitarian aid such as medicines, medical and surgical equipment, and food to various places in the world.
The National Fly Kids Day
One aspect of AWB’s work is to provide children with disadvantages the opportunity to discover the world of flying through special aviation discovery days. Whilst the emphasis is on having fun, the children learn about aircraft and flying, and of course actually enjoy a short flight. Children are able to experience this exciting day accompanied either by a parent or carer.
FFC is pleased to be involved in this event again and the committee has already made contact with two local children's charities. We would like to make this as memorable a day as possible both in the air and with a fun experience on the ground – e.g. giving them talks on aspects of aviation, displays by a local aero modelling club etc .
We’ve already had commitments from several pilots and aircraft (privately owned as well as club aircraft).
Would you like to be involved in this exciting event and fly some of these kids? AWB are willing to provide some element of financial support (remember though, they’re a charity so won’t fund everything in full!) so if we could amass a real team of pilots to share the flying and help provide a fantastically memorable day for these kids, not only would they have a day to remember, we as a club and individuals would as well.
